When you move or delete a page of your website and the visitor clicks on that URL, they are faced with a 404 Not Found Error. 404 error page greatly affect your site user experience.

Fixing 404 Error Pages in a WordPress site is not a difficult task. The best part of WordPress is that you will get plugins to solve each problem.

And thankfully has a plugin called Redirection, which manages redirects and tracks 404 error not found pages. This helps to improve the user experience of your site.

How to Fix 404 Error Pages in WordPress Site

First of all, you have to install and activate the Redirection plugin on your site. Here is a guide in which I explained 3 different ways to install WordPress plugins.

After activating the plugin, click on Tools >> Redirection to setup Redirects and follow the screenshot below.

Here you add your old URL (showing URL 404 error not found) to the Source URL field and add the new URL to the Target URL field where you want to redirect the user. Leave the rest of the settings default.

After adding your URL, click on “Add redirect”. Now to test it, you can click on the URL with 404 not found.

Now when a visitor clicks on that 404 not found page, it will automatically redirect them to the new URL.

Another good thing about the Redirection plugin is that through this you can easily track 404 Error Pages.

Click on the 404s option at the top. This plugin will start showing 404 Error Pages on your site. Now you can redirect the page containing these 404 Not Found Error to another URL.

This plugin also allows you to redirect your modified posts. If you modify or edit your post’s URL, this plugin will set automatic redirect.
