WordPress Settings After creating a blog on WordPress, your work is not finished. Now you have to do some important settings in your blog so that your blog can be search engine friendly.
The default WordPress installation is not SEO friendly but with some configuration, you can make it SEO friendly.
Today in this article I will tell you about some essential settings which are necessary after installing WordPress.
Important WordPress Settings after creating a blog on WordPress
After installing WordPress here I am going to tell you some important settings that will help optimize your blog and make SEO friendly.
So let’s start…
Install SSL Certificate Wordpress Settings
This is the most important setting after installing WordPress. Because this is a very important Google Ranking Factor.
The SSL Certificate converts your site from HTTP to HTTPS and when Google ranks a page, it uses https as ranking factors.
So to rank higher in Google, migrate your site to https.
Here’s a guide
Delete Default Post, Page, and Comment
When you install WordPress, we get an installation with things like a Demo post, Demo page, and a Demo comment.
Login to your WordPress dashboard and go to Posts >> All Posts and delete the default “Hello world” post.
Just like the first step, go to Pages >> All Pages and delete the default “Sample Page”.
Finally, click on “Comments” and delete the comment as well.
Set Your Timezone (WordPress Settings)
Click Settings >> General to set your blog’s time zone. Set the time zone of the blog according to your local time so that when you schedule a post, they go live according to your time zone.
Change WordPress Permalinks
This is also a very important setting after creating a blog on WordPress.
WordPress comes with 5 types of Permalink structure but the Default Permalinks structure is not SEO friendly and looks like this.
This permalink is small but not search engine friendly. So click on Settings >> Permalinks and select Post Name permalink and then click on the Save Changes button.
Setting up WordPress Discussion or Comments
For this, go to the Settings >> Discussion page and make the settings according to the given screenshot.
WordPress Ping List update
By default, WordPress comes with a popular ping service. But you can add more ping service to this list and update blog posts and notify them.
You can click on the Settings >> Writing to update the ping service. Then scroll to the update services section and add your ping service.
Install a nice WordPress theme
When you install WordPress, it gives you the Default theme (Twenty Twenty). This theme is also very good, but I would recommend you to use Lightweight and Well-coding themes on your blog. Here I have set a list – 24 Best SEO Friendly WordPress Themes
In this list, I have listed both free and paid themes. You can install any one according to your need and budget.
Delete Inactive WordPress Themes / Plugin
Click on the Appearance >> Themes to see all your installed themes. If you see any Inactive WordPress Themes here, delete it. Similarly, you can also delete Inactive Plugin by going to the plugin page.
These greatly affect your website speed. Also, Inactive plugins and themes create security vulnerabilities for your site.
Change Site Title and Tagline
If you have not changed the title and Tagline of the blog during WordPress installation, you can change it later.
Click on Settings >> General page. Finally, here you will see the site title and tagline. You just need to change it.
Connect your blog to CDN
CDN (Content Delivery Networks) improves your site performance and also reduces server load.
They provide content based on the user’s location. When you use CDN service, it stores a cache of your site on its server and when a user visits your site, it provides content by the server closest to the user.
There are many CDN services available in the market. Currently, I use Cloudflare on my site. This is a very popular CDN service.
Install SEO plugin
The SEO plugin helps improve the SEO of your blog. I would recommend you to install the Yoast SEO plugin.
Yoast SEO is the most popular and best SEO plugin available in the market. It comes with so many features (content analysis, meta keywords and description, XML sitemaps, social features, rich snippets, and more) that help optimize your website and content.
The Yoast SEO plugin is the best option for optimizing content properly and improving search rankings.
Install Cache Plugin
Cache Plugins improve your site loading speed and user experience. These generate Static HTML files for your WordPress site and when a visitor visits your site, it serves Static HTML files visitors instead of heavier WordPress PHP scripts.
Enable Spam Protection for Comment
Spam Comments takes unnecessary space on your WordPress hosting, which increases the size of your database and also affects your website loading speed. There are many ways to moderate spam comments in a WordPress site. If you want, you can manually moderate it. It will take you a lot of time.
An alternative to this, you can deal with spam comments using Antispam WordPress Plugins. Antispam Plugins automatically block Spam comments on your site.
Add Social Share Button (WordPress Settings)
You can allow visitors to share their blog posts on social networking sites quickly, by adding social sharing buttons on your site. There are so many social share plugins available in the market.
Change Admin Username
If you are using Admin Username, then changing it might be a good idea from a security point of view. But WordPress does not allow this to happen by default.
There are many ways to change WordPress Username.
Connect your blog to Google Search Console
Google Search Console is a good tool developed by Google. This helps to track your website performance (how your site is performing in Google).
You can get valuable insights into your website from Google Search Consoles such as Crawl errors, Ranking Keywords, impressions, and more.
Submit Sitemap (WordPress Settings)
First, create a Sitemap for your site. You can read this guide to create a Sitemap – WordPress Ke Liye XML Sitemap Kaise Banaye
After creating a Sitemap, click on the ‘Sitemaps’ option in the left column of the Google Search Console dashboard, then paste the last part of the URL (sitemap_index.xml) and click on the Submit button.
Create Important Page
Contact page is a very important page for any blog because visitors or advertisers contact you using the contact page only.
Set Favicon (WordPress Settings)
Favicon is a small icon that appears in the address bar of the visitor’s browser. This makes your brand professional and credible.
In addition, when a visitor bookmarks your site, your site Favicon appears.
